The percentage of teen cell phone users is extremely high. Social media has as a big role in this. Society deems the affluent as those with the best electronics and new equipment. In order to feel important or "fit in," teenagers will make it a priority to obtain the hottest of items. Even low income families, who perhaps use welfare programs to pay rent and food, will have a household where a majority of their children will have a cell phone. Since teenagers do not understand finance or taxes, they don't think this is a big deal anyways. However, as they are consumed by social media and constantly have their noses stuck in their phones, they're losing sight of what's really important. They aren't learning how to cook, cleaning becomes less important, and the amount of outside time decreases greatly. The parents feel left out, so they buy themselves a phone. Nobody talks to each other at the dinner table, where they eat Chinese takeout because nobody knows how to cook anymore. The only brightness in their future is the light that illuminates off of their Iphone screen.
