“Truth is powerful, and it prevails.” ---Sojourner Truth
Truth is a term that can be best coined as relative. One's truth is not the same as another's, and people go through life with different ethical codes and morale. The problem with truth is that it can be controversial and itch people the wrong way. Some people don't like to hear it, but when things are expressed how they should be, truth can speak volumes. Trust is built off of truth, and can bring people together in more ways than one would expect.
People don't understand truth when it goes against what they believe in, or what their truth is. They can't accept it, and many do not want to. Ignorance is bliss. Social media censors out attacks on Syria and how children are being killed at the hands of US bombs, but do not fail to announce that Beyonce is having twins. When the truth is hidden from the public, people stay stuck in infinite regress, that everybody's truth deserves questioning, spitting out an endless line of "buts." By exposing an audience to what really happens, places like Syria are able to move forward and to recover from the tragedy that they got swept up in. They are no longer blocked out by celebrity news and get the attention that they deserve. Minorities in the Black Lives Matter movement are able to move forward and not be portrayed as "thugs" or "violent." Conservatives might be able to tolerate the Liberals and build a community that is based off of love rather than discrimination. The truth isn't always what people want to hear, but more or less what people need to hear.
