Society often ridicules mechanics, construction workers, janitors, or plumbers because of the stigma that those types of jobs do not require a college degree. These workers will fall under certain assumptions. When we praise people who do work that is straightforwardly useful, the praise often betrays an assumption that they had no other options (Source A). This reiterates the stereotypes given to jobs that require using the hands or fixing things. Since jobs like these merely require a training certificate, they may not be as highly regarded in society because of the lack of a college degree. Many students who attend college can come to realize that they would rather make use of their hands, instead of spending their time in a classroom. However, although certain jobs can be obtained without a college degree, plumbers, construction workers or mechanics can benefit from a college degree by applying certain skills to their work. For instance, a construction worker can use their skills of engineering or mathematics to assist them in measuring or building. In turn, people are more likely to pay someone who uses correct methods and refer them to their friends.
