“If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
---Dolly Parton
Many people say that the good things in life come for free. The extent of this statement is relative tho. The quote by Dolly Parton is a metaphor, representing a literal contextual meaning, that rainbows are created as a result of the sun and rain colliding. The figurative aspect comes from the idea that in order to get to the good things in life, you have to get through the obstacles and hardships first. Parton's argument is evident due to the fact that everybody has a different life story, and that not everything good is a result of it being free.
Personally, I've grown up low income most of my life. I've seen how hard my parents struggled to find jobs or ways to pay the bills. They were never handed money from their families or had it easy. My sister had to get a job at 16 just to help pay the rent. It wasn't the ideal situation, but being where I am now, where my family is now, I can say that there was definitely lots of rain that came before the rainbow. Many celebrities are in the same situations, growing up in single parent households, having to work at young ages, working even harder to get gigs and noticed. In order for them to be successful, they had to work for it, some even poor during the process.
